DEMOPOLIS 10, NORTHRIDGE 9

A day after the laughter over Class 5A, Area 5 foe Central, Demopolis won a considerably more wild affair 10-9 over Northridge. Cannon struck out the final batter of the game in the bottom of the ninth inning to strand the tying run at third base.

That sequence punctuated an 11-run ninth inning that saw Demopolis outscore Northridge 6-5 in the frame.

With the international tiebreaker rule in effect, Burbage opened the ninth with a bunt single that scored Zanadia Wright to put Demopolis up 5-4. Abrams and Smith followed with back-to-back infield singles to load the bases. Cameron followed with a double that drove in all three runners for the 8-4 advantage. Hughes then stroked a single to center to move the lead to 9-4. After an Elly Brown single, Bria Brown hit into a fielder’s choice to plate Hughes for a 10-4 lead.

Northridge followed with five hits in the ninth to plate five runs before Cannon slammed the door.

Demopolis opened the scoring in the top of the fourth inning when Bria Brown doubled in Cameron. Larkin made it back-to-back doubles with a two-bagger that plated Bria Brown.

With Northridge leading 4-2 and two out in the top of the seventh, Demopolis rallied to tie the game. Burbage swiped home on a double steal to cut it to 4-3 before Hughes singled to drive in Abrams and tie the game.

Demopolis (11-11, 2-1 Class 5A, Area 5) is set to return to action Wednesday when it travels to Bibb County.
