Farewell

Most of my professional career has been spent in journalism. Nothing has given me more enjoyment and satisfaction than reporting news in and around Demopolis.

Covering local stories has allowed me to be legitimately nosey, and in a small city those stories can range from kindergarten registration to murder. I’ve gotten a first-hand look at how schools operate, the myriad details involved in the renovation and expansion of Whitfield Regional Hospital and the joyful look on the faces of DHS graduates. There have been countless meetings to report, ribbon-cuttings to cover, fund-raisers to announce and special events to celebrate.

But most of all, enjoyment has come from the people who have contributed ideas, been interviewed and shared information that made the Watchman more than a job. It’s been a pleasure, and it helped me to grow in appreciation of my adopted hometown.

Now that Michael, Stewart and I are closing up shop at the West Alabama Watchman, it is time to let everyone who has followed us know how much they were appreciated as we did our best to report news, share stories about our neighbors, announce upcoming events and keep west Alabama informed about issues that matter.

Thank you for enriching my life.
