Demopolis softball hangs 14 runs on Thomasville

Thomasville narrowed the gap with a four-run rally in the bottom of the seventh Thursday evening, but it was to little avail as Demopolis romped 14-6.

The visiting Tigers hung three runs on the board in the top of the first to take a lead they would never lose. Napoleon Roberson opened the game with a triple before scoring on Taylor Smith’s RBI bunt single. Two batters later, Elly Brown reached on an error that allowed Smith to score for the 2-0 advantage. Brown later stole third and scored on a steal of home.

Thomasville scratched out a run on a passed ball in the bottom of the first inning to cut it to 3-1. Demopolis added to the lead in the top of the third when Smith hit a leadoff single and scored on a Bria Brown double to move it to 4-1. Kendall Hannah walked, moved up on an Abby Grace Cameron single, and scored on a Kayla Montz hit to left to stretch the lead to 5-1.

Elly Brown hit a leadoff homer to open the top of the fifth inning, moving the lead to 6-1. Demopolis broke the game open in the top of the sixth. Natalie Tatum and Roberson sandwiched a pair of walks around a Caroline Larkin single to load the bases with nobody out in the frame. Smith followed with a double to center to score Larkin and courtesy runner Alex Abrams for the 8-1 lead. Hannah followed with a sacrifice fly to right to plate Roberson before Brown doubled to score Smith for the 10-1 lead. Bria Brown then singled in Elly Brown to move the lead to 10 runs.

Alexandria Newberry homered in the bottom of the sixth to keep the game alive for Thomasville.

Demopolis got the bats back to work in the top of the seventh as Weezie Hughes singled with one out. A single by Smith and a walk from Hannah later loaded the bases with two outs. Elly Brown drew a bases-loaded walk to force in Hughes before Bria Brown singled in Smith and Hannah for the 14-2 margin.

Brianna Crim hit a two run shot that plated Whitney Brasell in the bottom of the seventh. Jillian Hamilton later doubled in Dement to narrow it to 14-5. Newberry drove in Hamilton with a single for the final run of the game.

Demopolis (3-2) heads to Troy Friday for the Trojan Classic. The Tigers open the weekend against Loveless Magnet.
