Demopolis City Schools issues all-call, working with DPD

Demopolis City Schools Superintendent Kyle Kallhoff issued an alert through the all-call system Thursday night in response to an apparent threat against at least one of the system’s campuses. Demopolis Public Safety Director Tommie Reese addressed the matter on the Demopolis Police Department’s Facebook page just before 9 p.m. Thursday.

“The Demopolis Police Department and Demopolis City Schools received information in reference to the threat of a large group of students preparing to fight off campus, but near, Demopolis Middle School, thereby prompting an investigation,” the post on the DPD Facebook page read. “Information about the fight was shared over social media by several students which created concerns from parents, school officials and law enforcement. The Demopolis City School officials acted very swiftly in contacting law enforcement to ensure that our students are safe. After an investigation by the police department, we have identified and interviewed numerous students and they will be dealt with by the city schools and law enforcement.”

In his message, Kallhoff assured the system’s faculty, staff and parents that the social media threat is being taken seriously and investigated thoroughly. Kallhoff also implored parents to be active and involved in their children’s digital communications.

Kallhoff’s message to system stakeholders appears below in its entirety.

“Good evening. This is Kyle Kallhoff with the Demopolis City Schools system. After school today, information was provided to our school system that warranted collaboration with the Demopolis Police Department and an investigation is ongoing. Please be assured that the Demopolis City Schools and Demopolis Police Department are working together to ensure our students are safe at school. We will take every gesture and social media post seriously and investigate it thoroughly to ensure that safety. We will have school tomorrow and we will continue this collaboration with the police department. In order to maintain this safe environment, we need you to talk to your children about making good decisions, routinely check their book bags, and monitor their social media accounts and text messages. Thank you and good evening.”
