WRH renovation requires change of entrance for patrons

Beginning Monday, July 19, everyone entering Whitfield Regional Hospital will be required to use the Outpatient entrance.

The main entrance will be closed to accommodate renovation work going on in the main lobby and treatment areas of the hospital, a project that is estimated will take 90 to 120 days.

The WRH Auxiliary will be on hand to guide people to the appropriate treatment centers once they are registered.

The hospital administration asks that visitors be patient with the inconvenience and congestion as work proceeds in updating the facility to better serve its clients.

The multi-million-dollar renovation to the hospital was made possible after Marengo County voters passed a 4 mil property tax in December 2019. WRH was able to float a $15.5 million bond issue to pay off debt and begin a total redesign of the interior, install a new roof, purchase new furnishings throughout, pave all the parking lots, obtain new diagnostic and treatment equipment and provide an IT infrastructure compatible with current needs.

Already completed is the expanded ICU and The Whit Specialty Clinic, hosting medical specialists who see patients locally so they don’t have to travel an hour or more for treatment.

Still to come as part of the hospital upgrade is a new system which will enable WRH to generate its own electricity, The exterior of the facility will be recoated and repainted, and coming in the spring of 2022 will be the reopened labor and delivery unit.
