West Alabama 13U Babe Ruth drops Phenix City, 14-3

The West Alabama 13U Babe Ruth baseball team started their second game of the day, much like they played their first game – with a big first at bat of the game, scoring five runs. Phenix City bounced back with two of their own in the bottom half, but West Alabama went on to score nine more runs but only allowing one other Phenix City run in the bottom of the fourth inning. However, West Alabama scored three in the top of the fifth and held Phenix City scoreless for the 14-3 final.

West Alabama pounded out ten hits, with Jake Bumgarner going 4-for-4 and Tucker Capps going 3-for-4. Jackson Hasty, Colton Colgrove and Corbin Knott were credited with the other three hits for West Alabama. Bumgarner collected one single, one double and two triples for his four hits. In 34 plate appearances, West Alabama only suffered two strike outs and collected five walks.

Bumgarer and Colgrove shared time on the mound, with Bumgarner going 2-1/3 innings and Colgrove finishing up the 2-2/3 innings. Bumgarner gave up one hit and two earned runs, while striking out six and walking one. Colgrove gave up three hits but only one run.
