UWA 12th in AFCA Preseason Football Poll

WACO, Texas – On the heels on winning the Gulf South Conference championship and going three rounds deep into the 2017 NCAA Division II Playoffs, the University of West Alabama football team is ranked No. 12 in the 2018 American Football Coaches Association Preseason Division II Poll.

The Tigers are one of three GSC teams ranked in the preseason top 25. West Florida is ranked second and West Georgia 19th. After claiming their first-ever Division II national championship in 2017, Texas A&M-Commerce will start the season ranked No. 1.

West Alabama finished the 2017 season 10-3, marking the first 10-win season for the Tigers since 1975. UWA is the preseason GSC favorite by league coaches, followed by West Florida at No. 2 and West Georgia at No. 3.

The Tigers open the 2017 season Thursday, Aug. 30 at home against Lenoir-Rhyne. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
