Underwood named GSC Player of the Week

rp_primary_MBB_13-11-27_183LIVINGSTON – West Alabama senior Sandy Underwood was named the Noah Basketball Gulf South Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the week on Tuesday. It is the second time Underwood has received the honor in his career; first this season.

The Brent, Ala. native led the Tigers to three wins last week, including two on the road while GSC visiting teams overall finished the week 3-15. Underwood posted a career high of 31 points in an 89-75 victory at West Florida. He followed with an 18 point performance in an 80-78 win at West Georgia and 26 points in the 92-78 home victory against Shorter.

Underwood, a preseason All-GSC honoree, finished the week with 61.4 percent shooting from the field. He netted 13-of-18 field goal attempts against the Argonauts to finish with a season high of 72.2 percent.

Underwood and the Tigers will return to the court on Thursday to host Lee University in conference action. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Pruitt Hall.
