Timely hitting propels Sweet Water over Leroy

Sasha Smith threw a complete game, one-run victory Thursday night against Leroy.

Sweet Water found its offense in the late innings Thursday to make Sasha Smith a winner in a 5-1 victory over Leroy. The Bulldogs fell behind 1-0 in the top of the third when Leroy scored on an error. Sweet Water tied it in the home half of the frame when Shamar Lewis scored on an error.

The Bulldogs got the sticks going in the bottom of the fifth when Jonah Smith doubled to right to plate R.J. Rodgers and Sasha Smith, putting Sweet Water up 3-1. The Bulldogs added insurance in the sixth when Lewis singled in Luke Davis for the 4-1 advantage. One batter later, Sasha Smith singled home John Thomas Etheridge to cap the scoring.

Sasha Smith struck out five and scattered seven hits in the complete game win, using 88 pitches to accomplish the feat. He also shined in the leadoff spot, going 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI and a run scored.

Etheridge was 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Jonah Smith finished 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Davis and Lewis each singled and scored a run in the game.

Sweet Water (6-0) is set to play again Saturday in a double header against Hackleburg and Decatur Heritage Christian.
