Tigers softball thumps Jackson, 7-1 (photo gallery)

The Demopolis Tigers varsity softball team picked up a win over the visiting Jackson Aggies, 7-1, on Tuesday at DHS Tigers Spring Sports Complex. The Tigers scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and gave up one run in the top of the third inning. Then, the Tigers added three in the fourth and two in the fifth and held the Aggies scoreless for the remaining two innings, for the 7-1 win.

Lizzie Cannon got the start on the mound for the Tigers. Ashton Moorer relieved Cannon for two innings, then Cannon returned and completed a total of four innings. Tayler Pipkins came for one inning of closeout work in the top of the seventh. Cannon struck out six, issued no walks and yielded no runs. Moorer struck out five, walked one and gave up the lone Aggie run. Pipkins struck out one and issued no walks. The three Tigers’ pitchers yielded one hit each.

Madison Ford led the Tigers at the plate, going 4-for-4 with three singles and one triple. Ford also scored two runs. Abby Grace Cameron went 2-for-3 at the plate. Cannon, Weezie Hughes and Cloie Henry collected one hit each for the Tigers. Henry and Cameron collected two RBIs, with Cannon and Hughes collecting one each. Ford and Cameron scored two runs each, with Chloe Key, Cannon and Hughes scoring one run each.
