Tigers baseball falls to Hale County, 11-1, in five

The second half of a Saturday doubleheader wasn’t kind to the Demopolis Tigers’ baseball team. After a 5-run win in their first game of the day, the Tigers stalled against a fresh Hale County Wildcat team and suffered an 11-1 loss. Chandler King provided the only lights on the scoreboard run column for the Tigers with a solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth inning. Coleman Fuqua got the start on the mound, with Josh Holley and Drew Seymore also getting time on the hill.

The Wildcats chipped away at the Tigers by scoring two in the top of the first then four in the top of the third inning and stretched their lead to 8-0 with another two in the fourth. King got the Tigers on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning with his solo shot, leaving the Tigers with an 8-1 deficit.

The Tigers were unable to to plate any more runs after the Wildcats tallied another three in the top of the fifth, resulting in the 11-1 defeat for the Tigers.

Price Smith led the Tigers at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two singles. King’s lone hit, the homerun, was accompanied by singles from Montgomery Freeman and Vincent Deas.

It was a tough outing for the Tigers pitching staff. Fuqua spent two innings on the mound and gave up four runs. Holley gave up three runs and Seymore gave up four. To the pitching staff’s credit, only four of the runs were earned, as the Tigers committed five errors in the field, resulting in a total of seven unearned runs.
