Tigers baseball advances to second round, outscoring Rattlers 31-1 over two games

The Demopolis Tigers baseball team easily moved on to the second round of the 2022 AHSAA state baseball playoff, outscoring the visiting LeFlore Rattlers 31-1 in their two games. Josh Holley pitched a no-hitter as the Tigers took Game 1 by a score of 15-0. Mac Bradley picked up the win on the mound for the Tigers’ 16-1 Game 2 win. Both games ended in four innings.

Kevin McElroy led the Tigers at the plate in Game 1, going 3-for-3 with a single, double and triple. Drew Seymore went 2-for2 at the plate, with two singles. Ryan Bumgarner, Holley, Caleb Cobb, Montgomery Freeman and Jake Bumgarner tallied one hit each for the Tigers, with Holley’s hit being a double. McElroy led the Tigers with two RBIs. Vincent Deas, Seymore, Coleman Fuqua, Freeman and Jake Bumgarner collected one RBI each. Seymore, Jacob Davis, Myles Knott and McElroy scored two runs each. Joseph Gantt, Ryan Bumgarner, Cobb, Mac Bradley, Deas, Fuqua and Jake Bumgarner scored one run each. The Tigers collected three walks and only suffered one strike out in Game 1.

Holley completed four innings on the mound for the win. Holley totaled 10 strike outs, walked one and gave up no hits.

Game 2 saw three Tiger hitters collect two hits. Holley went 2-for-2 at the plate, with Gantt and Fuqua going 2-for-3. Bradley, Deas, Jeremiah Bell, Knott, McElroy, Jake Bumgarner and Ryan Bumgarner collected one hit each. Fuqua had a triple and a single. Holley had two doubles, with Deas and Knott adding doubles. Holley and Deas led the Tigers with four RBIs each. Fuqua and McElroy followed with two RBIs each. Gantt and Bell collected one RBI each. McElroy scored four runs. Holley and Fuqua scored three runs each. Knott scored two runs and Ryan Bumgarner, Deas, Davis and Bryce McElroy scored one run each.

Bradley picked up the win on the mound, going 2-1/3 innings with seven strikeouts. Fuqua saw his first action on the mound, completing 1-1/3 innings while collecting three strikeouts. Neither pitcher issued a walk.

The Tigers will travel to Holtville to take on the Bulldogs this Friday, April 29. Game times are 4:30pm and 7:00pm. If needed, Game 3 will be played at 1:00pm on Saturday. The Bulldogs are currently the second ranked baseball team in AHSAA Class 5A.
