Sweet Water splits with Blacksher in Saturday twin bill

Sweet Water split a doubleheader in Uriah Saturday, losing to J.U. Blacksher 3-2 in the opener before taking the back end of the twin bill 6-2.

Reid Joiner singled in Jonah Smith in the top of the eighth to put Sweet Water up 2-1. A two-out error allowed Blacksher to tie the game before a single ended the game. Sweet Water scored the tying run in the top of the seventh when Shamar Lewis grounded out to drive in Trent Sams.

Smith struck out six batters over seven and two-thirds while allowing two hits and one earned run.

Sweet Water capitalized on Blacksher errors in the second game of the day. The Bulldogs scored four runs with two out in the top of the eighth for the 6-2 win. Lewis singled ahead of a Smith double. Braiden Broussard followed with a single to drive in Lewis for the 3-2 lead. Joiner then hit a ground ball that resulted in an error on a play in which Smith scored to make it 4-2. John Thomas Etheridge then reached on an error on a play that allowed Broussard and Joiner to score for the 6-2 advantage.

Sasha Smith doubled in Eetheridge in the second for a 1-0 Sweet Water lead. Brandon Schroeder singled home Sams in the seventh to move it to 2-0.

Smith struck out four over an inning and two-thirds to get the win in relief in game. Braiden Broussard worked six and two-thirds while striking out three and scattering three hits.

Sweet Water sits at 10-3 on the season.
