Demopolis baseball runs win streak to eight games

Demopolis swept both ends of a doubleheader at Selma Saturday to move its win streak to eight consecutive games.

The first game of the day saw Demopolis score in each inning while using 14 hits to take advantage of six Saint errors for a 16-2 win. DeDe Davis finished with three hits, one RBI and four runs scored. Andrew Patterson had two hits, four RBIs and a run scored. Davis Petrey had three hits including a double and three RBIs. Charles Casper had a hit, one RBI and a run scored. Hunter Thrash and Hudson Holley each had one hit and drove in a run. Henry Overmyer finished with two hits, one RBI and two runs scored. Tyler Jones had a hit, drove in a run and scored twice. Jake Malone scored three runs while Wesley Allgood scored two.

Petrey picked up the win, striking out five batters over three innings while scattering five hits and a walk. Patterson fanned four over two perfect innings of relief.

Demopolis took its time getting the offense going in game two before winning 11-1. The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Casper scored on an error. Selma tied the game in the home half of the fourth. Demopolis regained the lead in the top of the fifth when Allgood scored on a passed ball.

The Tigers broke the game open in the top of the sixth when they rallied for nine runs. Malone doubled while Casper and Patterson each tripled to account for the Tiger extra-base hits. Casper scored three times while Holley scored twice. Patterson, Petrey, Russ Logan, Allgood, Overmyer and Malone each scored one run. Casper accounted for two RBIs while Petrey Payton Geary, Mac Logan and Overmyer had one each. Malone and Mac Logan were the only Tigers with multiple hits in the game.

Jimbo Lawler pitched well, striking out one while scattering two hits and a walk over three innings. Tyler Elmore got the win, fanning five over three hitless innings of reliefe.

Demoplis (8-4) is set to travel to Jackson High Tuesday.
