Sweet Water softball wins three straight

After an 0-2 start, the Sweet Water High School softball team (3-2) has built some momentum with a three-game win streak.

JACKSON 4, SWEET WATER 0

Megan Roe allowed three earned runs over four innings of work in the season opener for the Lady Bulldogs, a 4-0 loss to Jackson in the Jan Overstreet Tournament Saturday, Feb. 23. Elaina Mitchell doubled in the game for Sweet Water while Charlie Vickers singled and stole two bases to account for the rest of the SWHS offense.

THOMASVILLE 6, SWEET WATER 1

Thomasville hung three runs in the third and three more in the fourth to put Sweet Water away early in game two of the Jan Overstreet Tournament.

Brianna Crim homered and drove in two runs for Thomasville while Haven Collins had three hits and two runs scored to lead the way for the Lady Tigers.

Kora Myers scored the lone Sweet Water run while BreAnna Ramsey doubled as part of a two-hit game for SWHS.

SWEET WATER 3, DEMOPOLIS 2

Sweet Water got its first win of 2019 when its edged Demopolis 3-2 Thursday, Feb. 26.

Megan Roe proved tough in the circle for the Lady Bulldogs, striking out eight over seven innings of work while scattering four hits and one earned run in a walk-free complete game win.

Ramsey doubled and drove in a run in the effort while Eve Myers had two hits. Vickers, Mallory Roe and Curdajah Bonner each scored a run for the Lady Bulldogs.

Maggie Thompson, Kora Myers and Mallory Roe had a hit apiece while Lindsey Davis and Megan Roe each drove in a run.

SWEET WATER 5, CHOCTAW COUNTY 2

Sweet Water then built on that victory with a sweep of Choctaw County public schools. The Lady Bulldogs took a 5-2 victory over Choctaw County High School Tuesday.

Roe worked another complete game with eight strikeouts while allowing four hits and one earned run.

Ramsey doubled twice while Elaina Mitchell doubled once. Mitchell drove in two runs and scored twice. Ramsey drove in one run on her two-hit day. Mallory Roe also notched one RBI while Thompson and Alli Megginson each scored.

SWEET WATER 6, SOUTHERN CHOCTAW 0

Megan Roe proved equally as scintillating Thursday when she struck out five and allowed two hits in a 6-0 shutout of Southern Choctaw.

Ramsey went 3-for-4 on the day with a double and two RBIs. Mitchell went 1-for-4 with a run scored. Vickers was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Eve Myers scored a run while Mallory Roe was 1-for-4 with one RBI. Kora Myers went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Thompson had a hit and Megginson scored a run. Megan Roe also drove in a run.

Sweet Water is set to return to action Tuesday when it travels to Millry.
