Sweet Water moves to 11-7 after win in Chatom

Sweet Water (11-7) hit the road Thursday evening for a 6-3 victory over a game Washington County team.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring in the top of the third inning. A pair of errors allowed two SWHS baserunners, providing Lindsey Davis the opportunity to stroke a ground ball single to center to drive in Kora Myers and Charlie Vickers for the 2-0 lead.

Washington County got one of those runs back in the bottom of the third. Undaunted, Sweet Water continued to work. BreAnna Ramsey hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Madison Smith for the 3-1 lead. Vickers scored on an error in the fifth to push it to 4-1. Sara Irvin then singled home Davis for the 5-1 cushion. Irvin accounted for the final Sweet Water run of the game when she homered to center in the top of the seventh.

Megan Roe struck out five batters over seven innings of four-hit ball for the win. Only two of the three runs she allowed were earned.

The win followed Tuesday’s 26-0 thrashing of Class 1A, Area 1 foe McIntosh. Irvin starred in that contest with a triple and a homer as part of an 8-RBI day. She also walked twice and scored four runs.

Vickers scored four times and drove in one. Davis scored four times and drove in two. Natalie Luker scored three times and drove in three. Elaina Mitchell drove in one.

Megan Roe scored two runs and had one RBI. Eve Myers scored once. Ramsey scored once and drove in three runs. Smith scored one and drove in two runs.

Kora Myers capped off her day with three runs and two RBIs. Mallory Rose scored once and accounted for one RBI. Maggie Thompson scored twice.

Kora Myers and Ramsey doubled in the game. Luker and Megan Roe tripled.

Megan Roe struck out all nine batters she faced for the three-inning perfect game.
