Sweet Water goes 2-4 in Jan Overstreet Tournament

Sweet Water went 2-4 in a busy weekend at the Jan Overstreet Tournament in Thomasville.

Thomasville 8, Sweet Water 1

Three errors plagued Sweet Water in its first game of the day Friday, falling 8-1 to Thomasville. Sara Irvin drove in Lindsey Davis with a grounder to short in the bottom of the first for the only Bulldog run of the contest.

Thomasville scored two runs in the first, four in the fourth and two in the sixth to polish off the win.

Excel 1, Sweet Water 0

Megan Roe was electric in Friday’s second game. Roe struck out six over five innings of work, scattering four hits and a walk while allowing one unearned run. Sweet Water amassed five hits, including two from Mallory Roe but was unable to scratch out a run in the loss.

Sweet Water 5, Flomaton 2

Sweet Water overcame a late 2-0 deficit for a 5-2 win in its first game Saturday.

Flomaton took a 2-0 lead in top of the fourth inning. Sweet Water fired back in the bottom of the fourth. Eve Myers drew a one-out walk and scored on a BreAnna Ramsey double to cut it to 2-1.

The game changed in the bottom of the fifth when Irvin hit a three-run homer to center to plate Megan Roe and Davis for the 4-2 lead. Ramsey later singled in Myers for the 5-2 lead.

Megan Roe struck out seven over five innings while scattering six hits and a walk for the win.

Jackson 7, Sweet Water 1

Sweet Water could scarcely get out of the blocks against Jackson in Saturday’s second game, mustering only one run in a 7-1 loss.

Megan Roe homered in the third for the only Bulldog score of the game.

Sweet Water 9, Flomaton 1

Flomaton took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning before Sweet Water stormed back for a 9-1 win. Myers walked to lead off the bottom of the second ahead of a Natalie Luker double to left. Kora Myers grounded to first to plate Eve Myers and tie the game. Madison Smith scored on a dropped third strike to put Sweet Water up 2-1.

Megan Roe walked to open the bottom of the third and later scored on an Irvin double for the 3-1 advantage. Charlie Vickers scored on a passed ball before Irvin followed suit on another passed ball for the 5-1 lead.

Megan Roe reached on catcher’s interference to open the bottom of the fourth ahead of a Vickers single. Davis then drove in both with a single to center for the 7-1 lead. Luker later singled in Irvin for the 8-1 lead. Ramsey singled in Smith for the 9-1 final score.

Megan Roe picked up the win in the circle with five innings of work that saw only four hits and two walks allowed.

Excel 9, Sweet Water 1

Sweet Water’s weekend ended with a 9-1 loss to Excel. The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Luker singled in Davis. Excel tied it in the bottom of the second before hanging five runs in the third and three in the fourth to cap the victory.

Sweet Water (4-4) had been set to host Demopolis Monday but field conditions will force a reschedule.
