Some County offices closing; online services available

Thursday, March 19, the Marengo County Commission adopted a resolution declaring a State of Emergency because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The virus poses a serious health risk to the county that could impact the services provided to citizens, hospitals, schools and businesses, said Fred Armstead, Commission chairman.

Because of the seriousness of the situation, the Commission is closing the courthouse, the courthouse annex and library beginning Monday, March 23. They will remain closed at least through April 6.

The Sheriff’s Department, Detention Center, Emergency Management and road department will continue to provide essential services or support services as needed to ensure the safety, welfare and health of the county’s employees and citizens, Armstead continued.

Licensing and vehicle tag business and the payment of delinquent property taxes can be conducted online at www.marengocountyal.com. Credit card and late fees will be waived during this time period.

Anyone needing to pay delinquent property taxes also may mail a money order or cashier’s check with the account number to the Marengo County Revenue Commission, P.O. Box 480578, Linden, AL 36748. Payments will continue to be processed during this time.
