Scrooge comes to Public Square in Canebrake Player production

Demopolis’ little theater group, the Canebrake Players, is giving the city a Christmas present by performing an outdoor adaptation of one of the season’s most beloved stories.

Cast members rehearse for “A Christmas Carol: A Live Radio Play.”

“A Christmas Carol: A Live Radio Play” will be performed at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, in the Public Square.

“We are trying hard to come up with ideas to do something to keep us relevant in the community and offer something for people to do safely,” said Laurie Willingham, Canebrake Players board member.

Adapted by Joe Landry, the play is based on the Charles Dickens story. Music is by Kevin Conners.

Theater-lovers are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets to enjoy the production. Masks and social distancing are highly recommended.

The Canebrake Players have had to cancel three of its scheduled plays this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.
