Sara Irvin earns WAW Player of the Year honors

Very quietly, Sara Irvin has been a really good softball player for a really long time. In 2018, it was much less quiet. Irvin flashed near prodigious power this season and propelled her team through the South Regional Tournament and to within one win of making the state championship round.

Her stellar defense at shortstop combined with her ability to provide quality innings in the circle were reason enough for Sweet Water to view her as an indispensable part of its squad. But her bat? Well, that profiled as elite.

She finished the season with a .463 batting average to go along with 13 doubles, nine triples and nine homers. She drove in 68 runs and scored 51 more. And, by the way, she only struck out four times in 145 plate appearances.

Over the last three seasons, she has tallied 114 games played, 41 doubles, 14 triples, 13 homers, 117 RBIs, 120 runs scored, 39 stolen bases, a batting average of .458 and only 19 strikeouts in 379 plate appearances.

For her efforts, she is The West Alabama Watchman Softball Player of the Year for 2018. The entire West Alabama Watchman All-County Softball Team appears below in its entirety.
