‘Rusty’ Goldsmith comes home to serve as interim rector at Trinity Episcopal

Demopolis native the Rev. Dr. Maurice L. (Rusty) Goldsmith is returning home to serve as the interim rector of Trinity Episcopal Church.

Goldsmith, appointed by the Rt. Rev. Glenda Curry, Bishop of the Episcopal Dioceses of Alabama, will hold his first service at 10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 28.

A 1961 graduate of Demopolis High School, Goldsmith earned his B.A. degree from the University of Alabama and his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Divinity degrees from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn. He comes to Demopolis after serving parishes throughout Alabama and the southeast for the past 40 years.

His wife of 57 years, Carolyn, is a well-known and widely collected Birmingham artist known for her figurative and abstract paintings. The couple has three sons and four grandchildren. Son Michael is rector of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity in Huntsville.
