Robert Alston announces run for Marengo County sheriff

Linden Police Chief Robert Alston Jr. Tuesday announced his candidacy for sheriff of Marengo County in the 2022 election

Alston, who has been in law enforcement for 18 years, said his goal as police chief “was to improve the relationship between law enforcement and the community.” Believing that he has served Linden with “honor, dignity and pride,” his is ready to “spread my wings” across the Black Belt.

“Having me as your sheriff will move the Marengo County Sheriff’s Departmnt into a new era of professionalism, accountability and effectivement as a hallmark of the organization,” he said.

Alston holds an associate’s degree in law enforcement and will earn his bachelor’s degree in October. He plans to pursue a master’s degree “to further boost my knowledge of the field I have grown to love over the years.”

Speaking of the Sheriff’s Department, Alston said, “I fully understand what changes are needed, why they are needed and how effectively to achieve them.”
