Personnel matters make up called BOE meeting

Personnel matters took up most of the called meeting of the Demopolis City Schools Board of Education Monday.

In addition to accepting resignations, employments and transfers, the board also agreed to part time, limited contracts for the summer in the short meeting.

Resigning are Jeffrey Stanley, Westside Elementary P.E. teacher; Laura Davidson, Demopolis Middle LPN, and Robert Wilkerson, Demopolis High history teacher.

Laura Halley is reassigned from WES as a 10-month assistant principal to DHS as a 10-month counselor. Brandy Daniels is transferred from a 10-month lead nurse at DHS to a nine-month nurse at DMS, and Victoria Paige Gandy moved from U.S. Jones Elementary to WES.

The board hired James Russell and Ashleigh Cartwright as DMS social science teachers and Kate Lee as a 10-month lead nurse at DHS. Lee also was named sub nurse for summer school.

Nicole Phillips, DMS science teacher, received FMLA status beginning Aug. 12, and Regina Hill was named her sub.

The board approved hiring student Ethan Malone through July for summer maintenance work, not to exceed 20 hours per week, and James Warren, for technology assistance, not to exceed 24 hours a week through August.

The board amended its budget to include costs to auditors and insurance that was not in the original budget and to account for carry over federal funds received during the COVID crisis.

The board also held the first reading for changes to Credit Recovery Policy. The current policy does not outline the procedure for credit recovery, which the state requires.

Excluded from the previous school board personnel report published May 21, Lisa Willis was hired as a second grade teacher at WES.
