Charles Jones named interim president of Bishop State

Demopolis City Councilman Charles E. Jones became the Acting President of Bishop State Community College on Friday.

The announcement of Jones’ appointment came from Alabama Community College System (ACCS) Chancellor Jimmy H. Baker.

Bishop State is a public, historically black community college with campuses and facilities throughout Mobile and Washington counties.

Jones joined the ACCS in 2017 and now serves as Regional External Affairs and Workforce Manager. He began his teaching career in 2008 in building construction and other roles in the Demopolis City School System.

A community college alumnus, Jones earned as Associate of Applied Science from Shelton State Community College in Machine Tool Technology, a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Education from the University of Alabama and a post-baccalaureate certification in Construction Management from Louisiana State University.

The search for a permanent president for Bishop State is ongoing.
