Montz flawless as Lady Tigers open area play with win

Demopolis moved to 9-3 on the season while rolling to a win in its first area game of 2016 when it downed Wilcox Central 15-0 in three innings last Thursday.

The Lady Tigers got a three-inning perfect game from hurler Kayla Montz, who threw 30 of her 42 pitches for strikes while fanning eight of the nine batters she faced.

Demopolis scored 10 runs in the first inning and five more in the second en route to the victory. Holli Gandy finished 1-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored. Elly Brown went 1-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored. Abbey Latham was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, a double, a triple and two runs scored.

Kendall Hannah was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, a stolen base, and a run scored. Montz stole two bases, drove in a run and scored a run.

Bria Brown scored a run while Anna Katherine Aldridge went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Napoleon Roberson was 1-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored. Jessica Adams finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Demopolis is set to play its first home game of the season Tuesday at 5 p.m. against Jackson.
