McEvoy and Popova win, but Tigers drop match at Shorter
ROME, Ga. β Shannon McEvoy and Dasha Popova won their singles matches, but it wasn’t enough as Shorter defeated West Alabama, 7-2, in women’s Gulf South Conference tennis Saturday at the Walt Attaway Tennis Complex.
Shorter improved to 2-0 on the season while UWA lost for the first time and dropped to 3-1. West Alabama opens the home portion of its schedule Friday when national power West Florida visits he Vaughn Tennis Complex.
McEvoy, a sophomore from Fort Wayne, Ind., defeated Daniela Chipe, 8-2, while Popova. From Izmail, Ukraine, beat Sicquena Sinclair 8-3 after the match had already been decided.
