Marengo County Sheriff arrested on domestic violence charge

Marengo County Sheriff Richard Bates was arrested on April 24.

According to the Alabama Attorney General’s Office, they became involved after Marengo County officials recused themselves from the investigation.

An arrest warrant was served on April 24 for Domestic Violence – Harassment in the 3rd degree.

Bates was elected sheriff in 2010.
