Marengo Academy rolls up 472 yards in win over Evangel

Marengo Academy traveled to Alabaster to face Evangel for the first time Friday night, picking up a 35-19 win over a game Lightning squad.

Weldon Aydelott scored from a yard out in the first quarter before Hayden Megginson punched it in for a 6-yard score. Robert Tutt scored on a 12-yard run in the second quarter. The remainder of the Longhorn scoring came in the fourth when Cameron Peppenhorst sprinted in from 80 yards out and Aydelott found the end zone from eight yards away.

Aydelott led the way with 141 yards on 19 carries. Tutt added 117 yards on 10 runs while Peppenhorst had 134 yards on 10 carries. The Longhorns finished with 472 yards of total offense including 438 yards on the ground.

The loss was the first of the year for Evangel, which splits its time playing both eight-man and 11-man teams. Marengo moves to 8-1 on the season and wraps up AISA, Class A, Region 2 play next Friday when it seeks to win the region title at South Choctaw Academy.
