Marengo Academy powers way to state championship series

Marengo Academy (23-8-2) baseball punched its ticket to the AISA Class A state championship round Friday with a 12-1 game three win over Lakeside School.

Micah Agee toed the rubber for the Longhorns, recording a complete game while scattering five hits, walking two, striking out two and allowing one run.

Agee surrendered a run, two hits and both his walks in the first inning and proceeded to face the minimum in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings. Agee then retired the first two batters in the sixth before allowing another hit.

Marengo scored two runs in the second to tie the game before hanging two in the fourth, three in the fifth and five in the sixth.

Friday helped himself at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and one RBI. Wallace Tutt finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs.

Wyatt Hale was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and one RBI.

Brant Lewis was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Hayden Hall finished 2-for-4 while Hayden Huckabee, Weldon Aydelott, Tait Sanford and Josh Holifield each finished with one hit.

The Longhorns move on to face Edgewood (38-5) Tuesday at Paterson Field at 10 a.m. in Montgomery. If the squads split the double-header, they will play the decisive game at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
