Man arrested in fatal shooting incident

Demopolis Police arrested Lonnie Lee Brown III, 50, Saturday, within hours of when he is accused of shooting and killing a Demopolis man.

At approximately 4:30 a.m., officers responded to a shooting call near South Glover Street. Upon their arrival they found Quentin James, 39, of Demopolis suffering several gunshot wounds. The arriving officers began First Aid and CPR procedures until medical personnel arrived. James was transported to Whitfield Regional Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

DPD investigators arrived at the scene and immediately began their investigation. At approximately 11:30 a.m., Brown was arrested and charged with murder.  He was transported to the Marengo County Detention Center in Linden.

Police Chief Rex Flowers said the case remains under investigation. Information continues to be gathered.

Chief Flowers commended his entire staff for their response and teamwork that lead to the quick identification and apprehension of the suspect.   “This was truly a team effort from the patrol officers, investigators, ranking members of the department,” he said.
