Longhorns take out Jackson, Southern

MARENGO ACADEMY 5, JACKSON ACADEMY 2

Marengo handled its business against Jackson Academy with a 5-2 win over Jackson Academy Tuesday. The Longhorns hung three runs on the board in the home half of the second to back Carson Crawford’s strong work on the mound. Jackson scratched out another run in the top of the third to narrow the deficit to 3-2 before Marengo responded with a pair of scores in the bottom of the frame to set the final.

Crawford proved crafty over his seven innings of work, striking out five batters while scattering six hits, a walk and two earned runs.

Gavin Thompson led the hit parade for the Longhorns with a double among his two base knocks. He also drove in two runs. Dylan Mendenhall finished 2 for 4 with a pair of runs scored. John Parker Brock was 1 for 2 with two runs scored and one driven in. Hayden Campbell went 1 for 3 with one RBI. Dalton Daniels had a hit and Cody Cobb scored a run.

MARENGO ACADEMY 13, SOUTHERN ACADEMY 7

The Longhorns did all of their offensive damage in three innings of work in a 13-7 victory over Southern Thursday afternoon. Marengo scored six runs in the third to take a lead it would never lose. The Longhorns added three more runs in the sixth and seven in the fourth.

Brock got it done on the mound and at the plate in the victory. Brock struck out four batters over five innings while allowing three earned runs to net the win. He also drove in four runs and scored one. Daniels drove in two runs to aide in the effort. Tate Jordan, Hayden Campbell and Mendenhall drove in one apiece.

Cobb had two doubles and scored three runs. Cameron Dodd had a double in the game. Crawford and Mendenhall each scored two runs. Campbell, Daniels, Jordan, Cramer and Hunter Parker each scored a run in the win.
