Longhorns split Saturday double-header

LINDEN — Marengo Academy (18-6-2) split a pair of games against top-flight opponents Saturday, beating Kingwood Christian 13-6 and falling to Autauga Academy 6-5.

The Longhorns got a 4-for-5 performance with four runs scored out of Hayden Huckabee in the victory. Brant Lewis went 4-for-4 with two runs scored, two doubles and four RBIs. Wyatt Hale picked up the win for Marengo Academy.

The Longhorns went on to an extra-inning battle with Autauga that saw a solo homer in the eighth spell doom for Marengo.

Huckabee pitched five and a third innings, scattering five hits and striking out four while giving up four runs. Kyle Friday went an inning and a third, striking out three and giving up a run.

Brad Collins pitched an inning and a third, striking out two and giving up one run.

Friday finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a two-run homer, a double and three RBIs. Weldon Aydelott finished 2-for-4 with one RBI.

The Longhorns got all their offense early, scoring two in the first and three in the third.

Autauga scored one in the first, one in the third, three in the sixth and the game-winning homer in the eighth.

Marengo is set to host Wilcox Monday and travel to Southern Tuesday.
