Late rally puts Demopolis past Selma in area play

SELMA – Demopolis (7-9, 1-0) earned its first area win of the year Friday with a 7-4 defeat of Selma.

The Tigers posted seven runs in the top of the sixth to put themselves in position to pick up the victory, making Luke Yelverton (4-1) a winner in the process.

Yelverton worked five innings, scattered seven hits and a walk and struck out three while surrendering three earned runs. Michael Brooker picked up the save, working two innings and striking out two.

Matt Eicher walked and scored a run. Seth Aiken went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles, one RBI, a walk and a run scored.

Tyler Oates was 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Michael Brooker walked twice, was hit by a pitch and scored a run.

John Anthony Morrison went 1-for-4 with a single and a run scored. Jacob Rodrigues finished 1-for-4 with a single, two RBIs and a run scored.

Stephen Stewart reached on an error and scored a run. Wil Stephens drove in a run. Ryan Schroeder went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and one RBI.

The Tigers are set to host Selma for a double-header Saturday beginning at noon.
