Lady Longhorns take two in Macon-East tourney

CECIL — Marengo Academy (10-4) picked up a pair of wins Friday during tournament play at Macon-East Montgomery Academy.

The Lady Longhorns downed Hooper 7-0 to open the bracket, getting seven strong innings from pitcher Andrea Edmonds.

The MA hurler struck out 11 over seven innings of work, scattering three hits and issuing no walks in the win.

Conner Etheridge went 4-for-4 with a run scored, a triple and a RBI. Anna Michael Crocker finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and a pair of RBIs.

Edmonds helped her self at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one RBI. Mary Jordan Drake scored in her stead as a courtesy runner.

Ryan Hale went 2-for-3 with a stole base and two runs scored. Chandler Stenz finished 1-for-4 with a double, one RBI and a run scored. Caitlin Andrews went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

The Lady Longhorns moved on to beat host Macon-East Montgomery 4-2 in their second game of the day.

Edmonds fanned nine over six innings in that contest, surrendering eight hits, walking none and allowing two earned runs.

Stenz went 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored. Drake scored as a courtesy runner in place of catcher Anna Michael Crocker. Etheridge finished 1-for-3 with one RBI and a run scored.

Andrea Edmonds was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and a walk. Brooke Smyly and Kimberly Moore each went 1-for-2.

The Lady Longhorns are set to tangle with Glenwood in the finals of the winners bracket beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday.
