Lady Tigers thump Dallas County to lock up unbeaten Area 7 record

Demopolis wasted little time grabbing a lead Thursday before beating Dallas County into submission in a 19-0 victory that wrapped up an unbeaten Class 5A, Area 7 slate.

The Lady Tigers hung six runs on the board in the top of the first to firmly take control of the game. Napoleon Roberson tripled and scored on an Abby Grace Cameron squeeze bunt for the 1-0 advantage. A Kendall Hannah hit-by-pitch, Taylor Smith single and Elly Brown walk loaded the bases with one out. Courtesy runner Emily Schroeder scored on a wild pitch to move it to 2-0 before Weezie Hughes was hit by a pitch to load the bases again.

Wessie Jacobs drew a walk to force in Smith and move the lead to 3-0. Alex Abrams then absorbed a beanball to plate Brown. Hughes scored on a wild pitch for the 5-0 lead before Jacobs made it home on a wild pitch.

After Hannah struck out the side on the bottom of the first, the Lady Tigers failed to take advantage of her leadoff double in the second. The third told a different tale as Jacobs singled to open the inning before Abrams ripped a ball to left and flew around the bases for a two-run, inside-the-park homer. A Roberson double allowed Hannah to move the score to 9-0 with a sacrifice fly to center.

Jacobs doubled in Brown in the fourth before scoring on Tiffany McInnis’s single to move it to 11-0. Abrams then stole home to push it to 12-0. McInnis scored the 13th run on an error before Hannah doubled in Cameron to set the lead at 14-0.

The Hornets’ fortunes showed no change in the fifth as Brown opened with a double ahead of a Hughes walk. Jacobs tripled in both runners for the 16-0 lead. Roberson later singled in Jacobs. Abrams scored on an error. Hannah singled home Cameron to put Demopolis up 19-0. Jacobs, Hannah and Abrams each had three RBIs in the game that featured 15 Demopolis hits.

Hannah struck out nine batters and allowed one hit over a five-inning shutout.

Demopolis (22-11) is set to travel to Northport Thursday to face Tuscaloosa County before venturing to Troy Friday to being the Charles Henderson tournament.
