Demopolis High golf teams proving formidable in 2018

The Demopolis High School golf teams have shown themselves well to this point in the season. Through Tuesday, the Demopolis boys compiled an individual match record of 26-6 with a team average of 177 strokes per nine holes.

Demopolis outpaced Thomasville by 32 strokes (185-217) March 20 at the Demopolis Country Club. The Tigers followed with a victory over Sipsey Valley April 3 in a match that saw Demopolis prove 31 strokes (176-207) better than SVHS at Ol’Colony golf course.

Tuesday, April 10 saw Demopolis finish second in a tri-match at Cahaba Falls. On that day, Bibb County posted a 158 while Demopolis had a 177 and West Blocton turned in a 211. The low score of the match came from Bill Stephens, who finished with a 41 over nine holes.

The Tigers got back to their winning ways this week when they hosted Sipsey Valley at the Demopolis Country Club Tuesday. Demopolis finished 24 strokes better than Sipsey (173-197) with Cole Wilson’s 37 as the superlative performance of the afternoon.

To this point in the season, Wilson carries the team’s best average with 41.8 strokes per nine holes. Stephens averages 43.4 per nine while Austin Hall has a 47 average and Zachary Allen carries a 49.2.

The Demopolis girls golf team has also been stellar to this juncture as it carries a 14-6 individual match record with a team average of 140 per nine holes.

The Lady Tiger golfers have bested every opponent thus far except Northside. March 22 saw them fall by 17 strokes (120-137) to Northside at the Demopolis Country Club. Northside also prevailed over Demopolis in a tri-match at Ol’Colony April 3. On that day, Northside turned in a 113 while Demopolis carded a 146 and American Christian had a 189.

One week later, the Lady Tigers were the premiere team at Cahaba Falls, beating Bibb and West Blocton. Demopolis had a 139 that day while Bibb finished with a 156 and West Blocton turned in a 174.

The Lady Tigers’ most recent match saw them beat Holy Spirit by seven strokes (142-149) at Demopolis Country Club.

Caroline Webb carries the best nine-hole average for the Lady Tigers with a 41.2 mark while Hannah Webb has a 45.6 and Abby Quinney carries a 51.4
