Lady Tigers take two Thursday

Demopolis (21-10, 3-0) notched a pair of wins Thursday in two very different contests. The Lady Tigers opened the day with a three-inning blowout of Dallas County before squeaking out a victory over West Blocton.

Demopolis 18, Dallas County 0

The Lady Tigers tallied 16 hits and took advantage of three Dallas County errors for an 18-0 win. Abby Grace Cameron finished with three hits, one RBI and three runs scored. Napoleon Roberson had two hits and two runs scored. Kendall Hannah had a double, a run scored and three RBIs. Kayla Montz doubled, drove in a run and scored three. Bria Brown had two hits, two runs scored and a pair of RBIs.

Elly Brown homered and drove in two runs. Weezie Hughes had two hits, one RBI and two runs scored. Lane Braeden Burbage finished with two hits, three RBIs and two runs scored. Taylor Smith homered and scored two runs.

A Demopolis error accounted for the only baserunner and the lone blemish on an otherwise perfect game from Montz. She struck out two in the complete game no-hitter.

Demopolis 2, West Blocton 1

Demopolis got the game-defining rally in the bottom of the third inning. Roberson doubled to right with one out. Cameron followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Hannah then doubled to drive in both runners for the 2-0 lead.

The lead held until back-to-back hits in the top of the seventh allowed West Blocton to cut the deficit to 2-1. Natalie Tatum dug in and retired the next three batters to strand the tying ru and end the game.

Tatum finished with eight strikeouts over seven innings while allowing five hits and one earned run.

Demopolis will travel to Hale County Tuesday before heading to Dallas County Wednesday and Tuscaloosa County Thursday.
