Eight-run fifth propels Demopolis against Dallas County

Demopolis (15-5, 6-0) took its time putting the game out of reach Thursday before an eight-run fifth inning powered a 13-3 win over Class 5A, Area 7 Dallas County.

The Tigers opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Charles Casper singled in Andrew Patterson. Hunter Thrash then singled home Davis Petrey for a 2-0 lead. Casper scored on a passed ball to drive it to 3-0.

Dallas County got one run back in the bottom of the second inning and another in the third to cut the deficit to 3-2. The score held until the bottom of the fifth when Henry Overmyer singled to left to drive in Casper. Two batters later, Tyler Jones singled to center to score Hudson Holley and Overmyer to push the advantage to 6-2. Patterson later drove in Wesley Allgood with a single before Jones scored on an errant throw. Davis Petrey then tripled in DeDe Davis and Patterson for the 10-2 lead. Petrey tagged and scored on a Casper pop fly to short to cap the eight-run inning.

Dallas County added a run in the top of the sixth before Demopolis closed out the game in the home half. Overmyer tripled to score Holley before making it home on a wild pitch to end the game.

Hayes Atkins (4-0) struck out three battes over three innings while scattering five hits and a walk. Patterson struck out four over three innings for the save.

Demopolis is set to host Clarke County Friday before closing the regular season by hosting Sweet Water Tuesday.
