Lady Longhorns win seven of last eight

Marengo Academy (8-4) softball has been racking up games and victories since splitting a pair of contests on opening day.

EDGEWOOD 10, MARENGO 0

Saturday, Feb. 23 saw the Lady Longhorns suffer their first run rule loss of the 2019. Marengo used three pitchers to get through four innings in a 10-0 loss while scratching out only three hits offensively. Taylor Jordan singled twice and Raegan Pritchett notched one hit while Riley Newton walked to account for all the MA offense.

PATRICIAN 5, MARENGO 4

Patrician made if three straight losses for the Lady Longhorns Monday, Feb. 25 when they scored a pair of runs in the final two innings to take a 5-4 win in eight frames.

Despite the loss, Katey Glass proved effective in the circle. She struck out six over seven and a third innings of work while allowing three hits and one earned run.

Trinity Wilkinson starred at the plate with a 2-for-3 day that included a triple, an RBI and a run scored. Mary Grace Sheffield went 2-for-5 with a run scored.

Riley Newton had a double and two RBIs. Mary Kendall Glass, Makenzie Moore, Jessi Flowers and Kate Glass each had a single. Kate Glass also scored a run in the game.

MARENGO 14, KINGWOOD 0

Marengo turned the season around when it got to the Morgan Academy tournament Thursday, Feb. 28. The Lady Longhorns reeled off a string of five consecutive victories starting with a 14-0 thrashing of Kingwood that lasted only two and a half innings.

Jordan got the win, striking out two and allowing one hit over three innings of work. Sheffield highlighted the offense with a double and a triple to go along with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Katey Glass also scored two runs in the game. Moore had a hit, one RBI and two runs scored. Mary Kendall Glass doubled, drove in two runs and scored a run. Newton doubled, drove in a run and scored three times. Wilkinson went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Pritchett, Brianna Lucas and Cheyenne Sheffield eache scored a run in the game.

MARENGO 5, NEW LIFE 1

Marengo made it a back-to-back wins later in the day with a 5-1 victory over New Life. Glass worked the complete game with three strikeouts and three hits allowed over seven innings of work.

Wilkinson went 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI while Pritchett was 2-for-4 with a run and one RBI. Each of that duo also had one double in the game. Sheffield had a pair of runs scored while Moore and Lucas also scored a run each. Sheffield, Jordan and Flowers all singled in the game.

MARENGO 6, RUSSELL CHRISTIAN 3

The Lady Longhorns wasted little time turning Russell Christian into their next victim Thursday, Feb. 28 as they racked up 12 hits to anchor a 6-3 win.

Katey Glass pitched four shutout innings in relief while fanning three and walking one for the win.

Sheffield doubled twice while Glass and Newton each doubled once. Mary Kendall Glass had three hits, one RBI and two runs scored. Pritchett, Katey Glass, Newton and Sheffield had two hits apiece. Wilkinson had one hit and one RBI. Pritchett drove in two runs to lead that category.

MARENGO 7, SOUTHERN 0

The Lady Longhorns kept the streak going Saturday, March 2 with a 7-0 shutout of Southern.

Wilkinson handled duties in the circle, striking out seven and scattering two hits over four shutout innings. She also helped herself at the plate with a homer and two RBIs.

Sheffield doubled, drove in a run and scored once. Newton was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Jordan went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Mary Kendall Glass finished 2-for-3. Moore scored a run. Flowers singled and scored twice. Katey Glass went 2-for-2 with a run scored.

MARENGO 6, RUSSELL CHRISTIAN 0

Marengo continued the run later that night with its fifth consecutive victory, downing Russell Christian 6-0. Katey Glass proved masterful in the circle, striking out 11 over five innings of work while scattering three hits.

Wilkinson was little short of brilliant at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs. Netwon finished 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Sheffield went 1-for-1 with a double, one RBI, two walks and two runs scored. Pritchett was 1-for-3 with one RBI.

GLENWOOD 14, MARENGO 0

The Lady Longhorns ran out of gas and into a buzz saw Saturday night in a 14-0 loss to Glenwood. Taylor Jordan notched the lone Marengo hit of the game while the Lady Longhorns committed five errors in the abbreviated contest.

MARENGO 13, JACKSON 0

Marengo wasted little time bouncing back, taking all of its frustrations out on Jackson Monday with a 13-0 trouncing of the hosting Lady Eagles.

Taylor Jordan struck out two batters and allowing one hit over four shutout innings for the win. She also left her offensive mark on the game with a 2-for-3 day that include a homer and three RBIs.

Katey Glass and Mary Kendall Glass each doubled once while Pritchett doubled three times. Newton, Sheffield, Pritchett and Wilkinson had one RBI apiece. Wilkinson had a two hit day while Pritchett notched three hits. Wilkinson also scored three times.

MARENGO 7, MORGAN 0

The dominance continued Wednesday as Marengo throttled Morgan 7-0 behind a 14-hit performance. Sheffield went four shutout innings while allowing one hit and striking out seven. Newton worked three shutout innings with a strikeout and one hit allowed.

Sheffield doubled twice as part of a three-hit game while also scoring two runs. Jordan was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs. Mary Kendall Glass finished 2-for-3 with one RBI. Moore went 3-for-4 with a run scored while Newton was 2-for-5 with one RBI. Pritchett had a hit and scored a run. Wilkinson had a double, one RBI and two runs scored.
