Lady Longhorns unplug Chargers

1-11-19 — Linden, Ala. — Marengo Academy’s Riley Newton goes up for a shot against North River Christian Academy.

The Marengo Academy Lady Longhorns defeated the visiting North River Christian Academy Lady Chargers 56-19 Friday night. The Lady Longhorns took an 18-6 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. They were led in scoring by Mary Grace Sheffield and Riley Newton, who had 17 points each.

The Lady Longhorns added another 18 points in the second quarter and only allowed three to the visiting Chargers to stretch their halftime lead to 36-9.

After Sheffield paced the Lady ‘Horns with 15 points in the first half, Newton pitched in nine in the third quarter to help stretch the lead to 51-16. The scoring slowed down considerably with the Lady Longhorns posting five points in the fourth, to go along with only three for the Lady Chargers.

Trinity Wilkinson added 10 for the Lady Longhorns. Elizabeth Hill and Katey Glass added six each. Payton Tucker led the Lady Chargers with seven points with Anna Johnson and Kaylin Butler added six each.
