Lady Longhorns suffer first loss

ALABASTER — Marengo Academy (17-1) suffered its first loss of the season Saturday to Kingwood Christian after picking up win No. 17 against Coosa Valley earlier in the day.

The Lady Longhorns fell 12-9 to Class AAA power Kingwood. Chandler Stenz went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, a pair of doubles, a stolen base and a run scored.

Anna Michael Crocker finished 1-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI. Katie Tucker knocked in a run.

Andrea Edmonds went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI. Conner Etheridge was 1-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI.

Reesa Holifield and Brooke Smyly each finished 1-for-4 with a run scored. Taylor Barley was 2-for-3 with a run scored while Alexia Johnson went 2-for-4 with a RBI.

The Lady Longhorns downed Coosa Valley 4-3 in their first game of the day as Edmonds worked seven innings, striking out 10 while surrendering six hits and three runs.

Stenz finished 4-for-4 with two runs scored, a double and a stolen base. Crocker finished 1-for-3 with a walk. Tucker was 1-for-4 with a homer, three RBIs and a run scored.

Etheridge was 2-for-3. Edmonds went 1-for-3 at the plate while Barley finished 1-for-3 with a run scored.

MA is scheduled to play again Monday at Wilcox Academy in Camden.
