Lady Longhorns rout South Choctaw

20140121 MA vs SCA-1174LINDEN — Marengo Academy (20-0) wasted little time building a lead and shifting into cruise control Tuesday as it dropped South Choctaw 52-24.

The Lady Longhorns hung 20 points in the first quarter and embarked on a 19-5 run in the second while giving its reserves ample playing time.

The win came just one night after the Lady Longhorns needed a buzzer-beater from Chandler Stenz to knock off Pickens Academy and 46-44 and remain unbeaten.

Stenz led all scorers Tuesday with 18 points to go along with three steals, three rebounds and two assists.

Brooke Smyly chipped in 16 points and seven steals in the effort. Anna Michael Crocker had six points, four steals and three assists. Andrea Edmonds had four points and five rebounds. Conner Etheridge had two points and five rebounds.

20140121 MA vs SCA-1301Mary Jordan Drake had three points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Hanna Freeman and Kim Osburn each had two points while Victoria Belcher scored one points and grabbed a team high six rebounds.

Taylor Hanna paced South Choctaw with eight points, four rebounds and three assists. Bailey Manning added four points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Marengo Academy is scheduled to play again Thursday against Patrician Academy with the No. 1 seed in the area tournament on the line.
