Joiner, Broussard pitch no-hitters as Sweet Water wins Area 1 doubleheader

Sweet Water bounced back from an early-week loss to Leroy with a pair of 10-0 victories over Class 1A, Area 1 foe McIntosh Thursday.

Sweet Water scored nine runs in the first inning and one in the second for the first 10-0 win. Sasha Smith reached on an error in the top of the first before Jonah Smith singled. Sasha scored on an error and Jonah found his way home on a passed ball to put the Bulldogs up 2-0. Braiden Broussard walked and later scored on a passed ball. John Thomas Etheridge tripled before scoring on a Luke Davis single for the 5-0 lead. Shamar Lewis reached on an error that allowed courtesy runner Xavier Lucy to score. Sasha Smith followed with a run-scoring single to plate Lewis. Sasha scored on an error before Reid Joiner doubled in Jonah Smith to make it 9-0.

Chance Broussard tripled to open the bottom of the second and gave way to courtesy runner Trent Sams. Chastian Washington singled to score Sams for the 10-0 lead.

Chance Broussard was a walk away from a perfect game, finishing with 11 strikeouts in a five-inning no-hitter.

Sweet Water changed the starting personnel for game two of the series and found the same result with a second 10-0 win. Jaland Lewis-Horton opened the Sweet Water offense with a single before stealing second and scoring on a Walker Thompson RBI sac fly. Trace Luker then tripled ahead of a Michael Cole hit-by-pitch. De’Shawn Blanks followed with a single to score Luker for the 2-0 lead. Cole scored on a passed ball for the 3-0 lead before Trent Sams doubled in Blanks and Davis to move it to 5-0.

Brandon Schroeder singled to drive in Sams before Chastian Washington scored on a wild pitch. Lucy scored on a wild pitch for the 8-0 lead. Thompson made it 9-0 when he scored on an error. Luker scored on a passed ball to cap the first inning at 10-0.

Joiner was a Bulldog error away from a perfect game but struck out 14 batters for his own five-inning no-hitter.

Sweet Water (9-2, 4-0) is set to face J.U. Blacksher in a doubleheader Saturday at noon.
