Heart of Marengo celebrates first Annual Dinner

The Heart of Marengo Chamber of Commerce celebrated its inaugural Annual Dinner on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Soggy Bottom’s Shack 33. Approximately 65 members attended the event.

Kelley Jacobs Smith was hostess for the evening. Musical entertainment was provided by Mike and Andi of Demopolis. The delicious meal was catered by Soggy Bottom. 

Special awards were given out and the recipients were recognized for their contributions to the chamber. The Spirit of the Chamber award was given to Mrs. Alison Glass. The Big Business award went to Georgia-Pacific. Papa’s Foods was recognized for the Small Business award, and Kenneth Barrineau received the Outstanding Leadership award.

Since it’s inception, the Chamber has grown to over 140 business and individual members and a Chamber Business Directory was published for the area. Over the last year, everal Meet and Greet Receptions were held at various businesses to encourage and promote new ideas for the local communities, and a chamber chicken supper was one of the main fundraisers for future projects. 

Permanent planters and hanging baskets were purchased for Linden, along with benches for the downtown area. 

The Chamber sponsored a Friday Night Lights event, Easter at the Gazebo, and entertainment at the annual Pepper Jelly Festival in Thomaston. 

The cleanup and restoration of the old Levy’s location in downtown Linden was a huge project undertaken by the members.  More work is still in progress at the location, which is now named The Thomas Terrace. The Heart of Marengo Chamber was proud to provide goody bags for the kickoff of baseball season in Sweet Water. A highlight of the year was the Veterans Day Parade held on the streets of the county seat, Linden.
