Guest Column: Kallhoff ready for new school year

It’s my favorite time of the year again. Students are rested and prepared, teachers are rejuvenated and as sharp as ever, and parents are anxious and ready.  In the Demopolis City School System, we’ve been busy this summer cleaning and updating our campuses inside and outside. We have updated technology on a few campuses, and our teachers have been sharpening their tools by attending trainings on AMSTI, Pre- AP and AP, Differentiated Instruction, Student Engagement, Literacy, Math, Gifted Education, and STEM.

School starts on Tuesday, August 16th. This year we are operating on a 175 school day calendar, which is five fewer school days than previous years. Pay close attention to starting and ending times for each school because they have changed slightly from last year. The first bell for each school is as follows: W.E.S. – 7:45 AM, U.S.J. – 7:40 AM, D.M.S. – 7:45 AM, and D.H.S. – 7:41 AM.  This information can be found on each school’s websites or social media pages.

I want our Demopolis City School System parents and community to help us by pledging to the importance of school and ensuring that our approximate 2,300 students are at school every day, on-time, and ready to learn.  Help us make school a priority for every student we serve.  We are committed to ensuring that every child learns at high levels and producing graduates who are prepared for college, work, or the military.  We need your help and support to see this commitment become a reality for our students.

Let’s work together to make the 2016-2017 school year the best ever in the city of Demopolis.

Kyle Kallhoff, Superintendent
Demopolis City School System
