Grafton Wayne Holt

Grafton Wayne Holt, age 68, of Jackson, AL passed on July 27, 2016 at Druid City Hospital in Tuscaloosa, AL. The services will be held Monday, August 1st at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville, AL. Visitation will be from 9:00 -11:00 a.m., and the funeral service will follow with friend, Tom Tobin, officiating. The burial service will be held at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Jackson, AL.

Born at Mobile Infirmary in Mobile, AL on October 1st, 1947, he was the son of the late Mycie Eunice McCants Holt and the late Hoyt Grafton Holt. In his younger years, he graduated from Grove Hill High School in 1965 and attended Patrick Henry in Monroeville, AL (Alabama Southern) where he played basketball and was a member of the Sigma Chi Gamma educational fraternity. He began working for Scotch Lumber Company in January of 1967 and became employed at Allied Paper Mill (Boise Cascade) in 1968, where he settled in as a bleach plant operator and retired in 2011 at the age of 63.

G. Wayne loved his family, sports, farming, hunting, and fishing. With a genuine passion for nature and sportsmanship, he helped start the first bass club in Jackson, AL; he guide fished at Millers Ferry and Lake Eufaula and was a field tester for Mann’s bait company. His greatest attribute was his dedication to his sons, coaching minor, little, and dixie league baseball, junior varsity football, and arranging countless hunting and fishing trips across North America. Always active during his prime, he raced a tunnel hull boat for Gibbons Marine, started Holt Manufacturing specializing in hunting stools, raised Simangus cattle, and provided endless assistance for anyone in need.

He is preceded in death by his mother and his father. He is survived by his two sons, Daniel Grafton Holt (Misti) of Moundville, AL, and John David (J.D.) Holt (Lauren) of Hokes Bluff, AL; his six grandchildren Gage Grafton Holt, Ty Marcus Holt, Tinsley Denise Holt, John Dawson Holt, Lawson Hayes Holt, and Sara Grace Holt. Other survivors are his sisters, Carol Tolbert (Harry) of Irvington, AL, and Amy Jo Williams (Tim) of Wagarville, AL, several nieces, and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Stephen Smith, Ivan Pezent, Elwood Overstreet, Tim Tucker, Josh Wright, and Charles Goldman.

To all the doctors, nurses and staff at DCH TSICU, Glen Haven Health and Rehabilitation, we truly appreciate your care, concern and kindness. Also, a special thank you to Norma Williams and her sister Linda Robinson for taking good care of our daddy for the last couple of years. May God Bless.
