Greensboro romps against Sweet Water in tourney final

LINDEN — Greensboro hung 43 first-half points and allowed only five on the way to an abbreviated 52-8 win over Sweet Water in the Linden High School Christmas Tournament Friday.

The teams switched to a running clock for the entirety of the second half as Sweet Water managed no more than three points in any quarter and went scoreless for the game’s final eight minutes.

Greensboro’s press did the work early as Shawnderyl Watford turned steal after steal into points to put her team squarely in front. Watford had 16 points, eight rebounds and five steals in the game’s first 16 minutes before sitting the second half. She earned All-Tournament honors alongside teammate Elexis Evans, who earned MVP distinction after scoring 31 points Thursday and then finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds Friday.

Andrea Landrum earned All-Tournament honors for Sweet Water after scoring 23 points Thursday. Skylar Robertson led Sweet Water Friday with three points and nine rebounds.
