Demopolis proves too much for Choctaw County

LINDEN — Demopolis (7-5) ended the game on a 25-7 run to take a 66-51 win over Choctaw County in the first round of the Linden High School Christmas Tournament Thursday.

Trailing 44-41 in the third quarter, Demopolis exploded with a 12-point outburst to end the quarter with a 53-44 lead, capping a 25-point frame.

Kiante Jeffries led all scorers with 18 to go along with five assists, four rebounds and two steals for Demopolis. Cortez Lewis added 12 points for Demopolis. Charles Tripp finished with nine points while Roderick Davis had seven points, six rebounds and six assists. Tyler Perkins also chipped in seven points during the balanced scoring effort.

Daniel Webster led Choctaw County with 17 points. Ronald Ruffin added 10 points and nine rebounds for CCHS. Jayjerrin Craig finished with six points, nine rebounds, three assists and four steals. Quinn Pringle had eight points for Choctaw.

Choctaw is set to play in the third place game Friday at 6 p.m. Demopolis will move on to the championship game against the winner of Linden and Sweet Water in a contest scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday.
