Demopolis High FBLA wins big at state conference

The Demopolis High School chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) brought home a handful of recognitions from last week’s state convention but the biggest story for the chapter was Jake Jacobs. The DHS junior earned election as the 2018-2019 FBLA District 3 State Vice President.

As a chapter, Demopolis FBLA received awards as a $500 Club for donating more than $500 to March of Dimes, Blueprint for Success – Outstanding Chapter, and Gold Seal Chapter.

Recognitions for the club included Celebrating FBLA-PBL Week, Celebrating CTE Wee, Completing the Chapter Challenge-Super Sweeps/Nonstop November/Action Awareness, Conducting a Dress for Success Day, Donating to March of Dimes, Having a Local Membership Committee, Having College and Career Ready Members, Having 100% Class Participation, Having the Largest Chapter Attendance in District 3, Having the Largest Membership Increase in District 3, Holding an Emblem Ceremony, Increasing Membership, Promoting Financial Literacy, Publicizing FBLA, Reciting the FBLA Creed, Spotlighting Local Members and Advisors, Submitting a Program of Work, Submitting a Blueprint for Success and Submitting a Local Chapter Annual Business Report.

Individual Demopolis FBLA members also won or placed in a variety of competitions.

First place awards included:

Abbie Hathcock (freshman) for Introduction to Public Speaking, Virginia Malone (sophomore) for Introduction to Business, Michael Osmer (sophomore) for Introduction to Parliamentary Procedures, Mackenzie Dill (junior) for Advertising and Anna Kaye Williams (senior) for Personal Finance.

Second place awards included Brianna Doss (freshman) for Introduction to Business, Jake Jacobs (junior) for Insurance and Risk Management, Devin Daniels (junior) for Personal Finance, Shelby Gandy (junior) for Local Chapter Annual Business Report as well as Chance McVAy and Jakob Williams (juniors) for Mobile Application Development.

Third place award winners were Wessie Lee Jacobs (freshman) for Introduction to FBLA and Glendy Galvan (sophomore) for Introduction to Parliamentary Procedures.

Fourth place awards included Ella Quarles (freshman) for Introduction to FBLA, Tamia Neal (junior) for Help Desk and Makayla Durden and Taylor Vail (seniors) for Community Service Project.

The Demopolis High FBLA will compete at the National Leadership Conference in Baltimore, Md. June 26 through July 1.
