Demopolis golf wins Fayette County Invitational, eyes sectional play

The Demopolis High School golf team traveled to Fayette Tuesday to play in the Fayette County Invitational and defeated Fayette in a very close match to win the championship.

There were seven total teams in the tournament including Fayette County, Caledonia, Miss., Cordova, Brookwood, Brilliant and Sulligent.

Demopolis won the match despite not having the low medalist for only the second time all season. Korlan Trull of Fayette County won that honor.

Trull was followed closely by Demopolis High’s Braden Spiller. Demopolis High’s Jordan Williams and teammate Spiller each made the All-Tournament team.

Sam Yeager, Blake Bryant and Chandler Stuedemen rounded out the rest of the Tigers playing in the tournament.

The Tigers are 32-0 overall during the 2014 season as the head to the Sylacauga Country Club Sunday for a practice round to be followed by sectional play Monday.

“All five players are seniors and have played very well in their last four years,” Demopolis coach Mike Black said. “Their record for the past four years is 100 wins against only four defeats. That may be a record for the state. I do not know, but it is very outstanding and the team has played great. I am very proud of their achievements and proud to have been their coach and hope they can go on and win the state 5A championship.”
